Love's Exquisite Freedom by Maya Angelou

I have multiple reasons for putting up this poem. Is there anyone in this world who doesn't like Maya Angelou? I didn't think so.

On the other hand, I'm tired of "Still I Rise." I want to do a different Maya Angelou poem. My daughter suggested I do this poem, and today as a good day for it.

It didn't hurt that this poem was married to a series of rich illustrations.

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient memories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love's light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

This poem only exists by itself, in hardcover, Love's Exquisite Freedom

What's Going On Here?

Pretty much what the tagline says. I'm reciting poems I like, and making mashups of poems I like with the music for which my ear hungers when I read and think of these poems. It is my sincere hope that other lovers of these poems will do likewise.
